Thalassemia is Subject of Blood Center Lecture Print

February 25, 2010 - "Switching Globin Genes On and Off: Lessons from Thalassemia" is the title of a lecture to be given Tuesday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m. at the New York Blood Center.

Douglas Roland Higgs, FRS, Professor of Molecular Haematology at the University of Oxford and Director of the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford will deliver the speech, which is the 32nd Annual Alexander S. Wiener Lecture.

 Interview with Sir David Weatherall 
 Dr. Higgs is part of the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, founded by Sir David Weatherall.  For a recent CAF interview with Sir Weatherall, click here. 
The event is open (at no charge) to medical and research professionals, as well as the general public.  The lecture runs from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at New York Blood Center's Murray Sargent Auditorium, 310 East 67 Street in New York City.  A reception will follow.
